July 2025
Trams - same as in June, the roadworks in Rua do Forno do Tijolo continue, so the 28 cannot run its usual route between Martim Moniz and Graça.
But one big change - the viewing platform atop the Elevador de Santa Justa has reopened. A new and higher guardrail has been installed, but a maximum of just 20 people is allowed up there at one time.
ALSO, it will cost you €5 per person to access. That’s in addition to all other transport costs. AND the payment can only be made by bank card.

Access to the viewing deck is via a spiral staircase, and not for the faint hearted. The staircase is on the same side of the lift as the cabin exit.
When I visited, both lift cabins were operating, and the queue (line if you like) to go up was not so long. Maybe not for long.
SCAMS 1: anyone offering what they claim are drugs out there on the street is almost certainly not offering drugs. Don’t fall for it: it’s just bags of mixed herbs. Maybe some punters get a buzz from smoking mixed herbs, but I doubt it.
ALSO, Portugal’s law enforcement authorities take a dim view of anyone indulging in drug tourism. Liberalisation of the country’s laws in this area is all about sensibly managing and treating its own citizens’ problems. If in doubt, DON’T GO THERE.
SCAMS 2: anyone approaching people on their own, or couples, with a line in patter that claims they are just back from [whatever country], tells you they flew in from Switzerland, shows what looks like a CHF100 banknote and demands to know “what do Euro banknotes look like?” should not be humoured. Even if they have their “wife” with them.
Anyone wanting to know what Euro banknotes look like can be usefully directed to the nearest Multibanco. Or ignored. Or maybe both.
Craft Beer News
Pravda Craft Mission has opened another outlet, not far from Largo Dona Estefânia. Review will be added to Craft Beer Outlets as soon as I get there and check it out.
Pravda has added a 4% session pale ale called Facet to its offering. Spot on for warmer summer weather.
BREW. Chiado has a Pravda tap takeover right now. In case you’re in the old downtown and want to try the beer from Lviv.
AMO Brewery has added Coyote IPA to its offering. Subtly hopped and deceptively strong. Treat it with respect.
And on the subject of summer, there has been some very warm weather, and there may be more through July and August - keep hydrated, which means consuming plenty of water. Many locations across Lisbon have drinking fountains. Top up your water bottle regularly.
