Getting Around - Trams: more holes in the Rua da Prata.

Not so long after the big hole in the Rua da Prata was sorted out and tram services resumed, the roadway, or rather the sides of it, have suffered a partial collapse at the very north end, close to Praça da Figueira.

As a result, both the 15 and 25 have been cut back to turn at Cais do Sodré once more.

The works at present look like they are at an exploratory stage. In other words, we don’t yet know how bad the collapse is. There is pedestrian access, but the street is closed to all other traffic.

Tram 28: the works in Calçada da Estrela, which have cut the route of the 28 and meant turning back at Camões, are moving slowly up the hill, but will be continuing for some weeks yet. A substitute minibus, which can detour around the road closure, is running between Camões and Prazeres.

Craft Beer Bars - Ground Burger’s new outlet opposite Santa Apolónia station is worth a visit, with 20 taps and lots of food options. Their original outlet, close to São Sebastião Metro, with just 10 taps, has also been reviewed.


Carnival - not an official public holiday. Allegedly. This year, it’s on March 4, the day those in the UK would call Shrove Tuesday. Businesses may close, but tourist-oriented ones may not.

Padrão dos Descobrimentos , on the Belém waterfront, has reopened! Works on the “ water mirror ” fountain in Parque Recreativo Alto da Serafina have been completed, and the result is worth a visit on its own. The 770 bus from the north side of Sete Rios will take you there - an ideal place to chill for an hour or two, especially in the summer heat. Water Mirror at Alto da Serafina Next Sunday, May 18th, is International Museums Day, and Museu da Carris - the bus and tram museum - is offering free admission. Link HERE . For beer lovers, there is a craft beer festival on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th May, called Ponte & Pints, at Escala 25, below the Ponte 25 de Abril, on the north side of the Avenida da India, and close to the LX Factory. 14 craft brewers from across Portugal will be represented.
