Unfenced green space between the southbound and northbound carriageways of Campo Grande.

But the rumble of traffic fades into the background here, although there is noticeable aircraft noise - in this part of north Lisbon, you are not far from the Airport.


The park, named for the father of Portuguese democracy, who was twice Prime Minister, and served two terms as President, has a lake in addition to tree cover, wide paths for walkers and joggers, and plenty of places to sit and chill. It is not so far from the downtown, with direct Metro and bus links.

There is a children’s playground, and a dog park. The site is accessible. There are restaurants in the park, including a hideous McDonalds, a quick view of which causes the thought to enter that the planning application was not scrutinised in too much detail.


Because of the aircraft noise issue, the park south of Avenida do Brasil is not recommended. The planes pass directly overhead, casting giant fleeting shadows as they make their approach.

Metro Campo Grande, Buses 701, 717, 735, 736, 750, 767 and 798 at either Campo Grande Norte, or Campo Grande - Avenida do Brasil.

Padrão dos Descobrimentos , on the Belém waterfront, has reopened! Works on the “ water mirror ” fountain in Parque Recreativo Alto da Serafina have been completed, and the result is worth a visit on its own. The 770 bus from the north side of Sete Rios will take you there - an ideal place to chill for an hour or two, especially in the summer heat. Water Mirror at Alto da Serafina Next Sunday, May 18th, is International Museums Day, and Museu da Carris - the bus and tram museum - is offering free admission. Link HERE .
