5.1.11 Petiscaria do Elevador

Rua da Bica de Duarte Belo 62

Location HERE

Near the top of the Bica funicular on the east side of the tracks. Brazilian vibe, fried chicken, savouries, inexpensive commodity beer, and most of all not expensive. Can get a bit chaotic at times, not a lot of room inside, but the staff will be happy to see you. Feijoada on Sundays only.

Lots of people just look in to grab a beer; the crowd spills out into the street when it’s busy. Just don’t ask for a big portion of anything unless there are two of you to eat it. Not easy to leave in a less than full state.

Beware the combination of tiled pavement and steep, stepped street outside, and indeed, beware of the funicular. Rightly very popular.

UPDATE July 2025: the inside space has been given a makeover and what was two separate seating areas is now one, giving lots more room. One small CAUTION ... two shallow steps between the two seating areas.

Still top value, and still worth a visit.
