Is it the oldest café in Lisbon? Doubtful. But that’s not its claim to fame.

Guess what? You may have to queue, not for the first time. Sit inside and admire the mirrored decor, or outside and people watch. You visit A Brasileira for the experience; with a Galão costing more than four Euro, you don’t go there seeking out bargains.

It’s a very powerful and distinctive Galão too, and the snack menu has some surprises, like the savoury stuffed croissant. One of those seriously large pastries, with its serious stuffing, makes for a seriously filling lunch. So overall, maybe not so pricy. The seated statue of Fernando Pessoa is popular for photos, although whether A Brasileira really was his favourite café is for continuing debate. Print the legend, and all that.

6.2 Craft Beer Bars

The craft beer revolution began to wash over Lisbon around a decade ago. Some outlets have, in the meantime, come and gone, but the scene is a good one for locals and visitors alike. You can get decent beer in The Great City - here are outlets I know about and have visited recently. Follow the links! Most outlets keep to their advertised opening hours.
